Was Blind, but Now I See

Like many people, I’m not a huge fan of driving at night. It’s hard to see when it’s dark and I can easily miss a turn, especially if I’m not familiar with the area. However, when I have knowledge about my journey and I drive during the light of day or not in the stiff fog, navigating to my destination is easier.

The same can be said about our spiritual journey to Heaven. When we don’t take time to research our route to take into account the barriers that might be in our way, our journey can run into difficulties. Also, when we ignore directions and choose to navigate during low visibility, the chance of making a wrong turn or getting into a crash is much more likely.

There have been many times when I have sung a song a certain way for a long time and then after singing it out loud, another person laughs and says that I’m not singing the right words to the song. Many people are going about their life thinking they are doing great, but don’t realize that they are butchering the words of truth. If we like a song, we should take time to learn to lyrics instead of making up our own words. Many people know most of the rules, but then fill in their own rules for ones they don’t know or understand. This can get us into trouble. Telling a police officer that you decided to go 80 mph on a stretch of road that you didn’t know the speed limit won’t work. It turns out that the speed limit was 45 mph and now you are in trouble.

Take time to learn the faith you profess. As a Catholic, I’ve been listening to “The Catechism in a Year” podcast by Fr. Mike Schmitz and it’s a good refresher for what the Catholic faith professes. Knowledge truly is power and the more we know, the stronger we can grow in our faith. I am impressed when I hear people like Scott Hahn, who has a huge library of books in his house, speak about the Catholic faith.

We should all strive to be a light to others to show the way to Heaven. In order to be that light, we need to make sure we have good vision. We don’t want to have a blind leading the blind scenario or many people could be led astray. Never stop learning about our faith and we will gain an amazing grace to find our way to eternal happiness.
