Unless a Grain of Wheat Shall Fall

The world gives us so many possibilities of things to do and so many opportunities to do them. From a young age, we are taught to pursue our dreams, get a good job, make a lot of money, and live life to the fullest. We come up with a plan for what we want to do and work hard to accomplish that plan. While all of those goals can be good, we should never forget that the most important goal of life is to get to Heaven.

Jesus said, “Unless a grain of wheat falls and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat, but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” We need to be able to die to the things of this world. If we live for the physical things of this world, we need to realize that all of those things will pass away, but if we embrace God and the things He promises us, we can enjoy something that lasts forever. Although our current physical body will one day die, we’ll all rise to new life with a perfect glorified body. If we focus on Jesus during this life and stay close to Him, we’ll be so happy to be able to spend eternity with Him in our glorified body as well.

Go out and do the things we love to do and experience the joys this world offers, but keep our relationship with God as our top priority. Don’t let our wants and desires or the distractions of this world get in the way of that relationship. It’s easy to forget about God when everything is going great and it’s also easy to be angry with God when everything isn’t going so great as well. If life is going great, remember that all those great things will be gone. If we are suffering and experiencing sad moments, realize that those too will eventually pass away. What will we be left with when everything has passed away? Hopefully a strong relationship with our Father who loves us and will never pass away.
