We sometimes feel like we are in the dark and have a hard time discerning what to do or where to go in life. There are so many choices available to us and we can easily get overwhelmed. We can even have a tough time deciding on what is right and wrong and good or bad. God is the ultimate light and when we stay close to Him, things will become clearer and easier to see.
The more we distance ourselves from God, the harder it is for us to see the light and the truth. Sin is what distances us from God and it clouds our vision. We may start with one small sin and then another and another. Every one pushes us a little further from God. Going to the beach is one of my favorite relaxing vacation destinations. I’ll be relaxing in the ocean and then, all of a sudden, will realize that I’ve drifted down and away from my family sitting on the beach. This can happen to us in our relationship with God if we don’t keep our eyes on God and instead let sin and other things distract us.
The further we get from God, the more likely it will be for us to fall into more serious sin and become lost. When we drift away from God, we may start following someone else or another group of people and they may lead us even further away from our Father. God needs all of us to be beacons of light to help guide those who have drifted back to Him. The more people who point their light towards God, the harder it will be for others to drift from Him and get lost.
Humanity had drifted so far away from God, that God sent Jesus into the world to show us the way to get back to Him. Although Jesus is still among us in many ways, He counts on to us to now continue to be a visible light for the world and show others the way to the Father. Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
We may never be superheroes and get the opportunity to save the world from a menacing bad guy, but we all have opportunities to save the eternal souls of those who are lost. We need to keep our eyes on God, so we don’t drift away ourselves and then we can point others toward God. Our path to Heaven isn’t meant to be journeyed alone. I will be so happy if I get myself to Heaven, but will feel like a failure if I don’t help someone else get there as well. Stay in the light and let your own little light shine towards God.
