To Seek What is Lost

Don’t we all hate the feeling of losing something? Many times, through no fault of our own, something is misplaced. One time, a hotel van driver forgot to load one of my bags on the van and left it in the road at the airport with my iPad, passport, headsets, and many other important things inside it. When something valuable of ours is lost, we get that not so good feeling and start to pray for the lost item to be found.

Just imagine how God feels when one of us strays from the path to Heaven and gets lost. We are worth a lot to God and one lost soul isn’t insignificant to Him. In Matthew 18:12, Jesus tells a parable about the man who leaves the ninety nine sheep in search of the one that is lost. God came into the world through Jesus and sought to also find lost souls.

God will never give up searching for us, but how hard do we make it for Him to find us? When Adam and Eve sinned, the first thing they did was try to hide from God. We too can have the same inclination to hide. It’s easy to feel unworthy when we sin and we can tend to use the darkness to hide from the light. Instead, we need to always go back into the light and reconcile our sins with God. Our Father will welcome us with open arms.

I ended up getting reunited with my bag and all of the contents in it. I was so excited and relieved to get everything back! I can see why Jesus talks about how much rejoicing there will be for one lost person who is found. If I was excited to be reunited with material possessions, just think how excited God will be to be reunited with a once lost immortal soul.
