The Light of the Human Race

As much as I talk about letting our one little light shine, we all should give thanks to Jesus Christ for coming into the world and showing us the ultimate source of all light. Jesus lights the way to lead us to His Father and shows us how to best let our light shine to others. Jesus Christ not only opened the door to Heaven for us, but He showed us how to get there.

While there were good people who brightened the lives of others before Jesus, the world was basically spiritually dark. People were longing for a savior to show them the way. They were expecting a powerful person to come and lead them to the promised land and weren’t expecting their savior to come in the form of a helpless baby. Many times in life, we think we need one thing, but then another thing comes along and changes our lives even more for the better. Let’s try to be open to the seemingly insignificant things that come into our lives. Even the bad experiences we have, can change our life for the better.

Jesus embraced our weaknesses and frailty, showing us that we can accomplish a lot of good despite our human weaknesses. Although Jesus was fully God, He was also fully human. He felt the pain of loss and the joy of accomplishment. He felt love, anger, sadness and all of the emotions that we feel. We can’t say that God just doesn’t understand, because He lived as one of us as well.

This weekend, we celebrate the day Jesus was born into the world and we also look forward to the day when He will return. Jesus passed the torch onto us when He left and now it’s our job to keep the flame going until He returns. Let us keep our fire of love for Jesus burning bright. In a week or so, most people will forget about Christmas and go back to their daily lives. We need to be the constant reminder that God so loved the world that He gave His only son and that He is the way to eternal life.
