I’m in a Heavenly State of Mind

Trust is a big part of helping societies not only exist, but also prosper. When someone hands me a check, I’m trusting that they have the amount for the check in their bank account. I trust that the food is safe to eat when I go to a restaurant. If I require surgery, I trust that the doctor is competent to perform the procedure. Without trust, everyone becomes paranoid and societies suffer and break down.

An employee doesn’t start a new job as president or CEO. They have to work their way up to the top and prove that they are trustworthy and good for the company. Lots of jobs have a probationary period for a year where employees are evaluated on their performance and could be let go if they show they aren’t reliable, knowledgeable, or don’t live up to the standards set by the company. Being trustworthy in a spiritual sense is even more important and is all about changing our frame of mind.

We don’t know all the joys and treasures that we will receive in Heaven, but in order to receive them, we need to show that we can be trusted with the little treasures in this life. What are the treasures that we get excited about in this life? Is our main priority to get money, fame, or power; or are we more concerned with building spiritual wealth, being humble, and serving others? There will be no money in Heaven. There will also not be any fame or power to be gained as well. God will hold the ultimate power and we will be adoring Him. Just as it would be hard for people to go from being lazy bums to becoming doctors, it would also be hard for people to go from primarily loving themselves in this life to primarily loving God in the next. This is why people don’t make it to Heaven. When people consistently choose behaviors in this life that go against the behaviors in Heaven, people don’t choose Heaven when they die because it is foreign to them. Why would a fame seeker go somewhere where they will not be famous or a wealthy person go somewhere where they will not be wealthy?

If we can’t do small acts of good to others in this life, how can we expect to receive huge good rewards in Heaven? If we became comfortable living life constantly in sin, how can we expect to be comfortable in Heaven without sin? When we conform our state of mind in this life to be more in line with God and His plans for us, we will guarantee that we will fit right into His kingdom in Heaven.
