Why were we created? What is our purpose in life? While God created each of us for a unique mission, we all share a common purpose.
First, we need to understand that God does not need us. He is all-powerful and perfect in every way. The love shared by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is enough in itself. Yet God freely chose to invite us into the life and love of the Trinity.
Consider a billionaire who possesses everything he could ever want, yet still chooses to share his wealth with others. In a similar way, each of us is rich in some special gift or talent. We could either keep the talent only for ourselves or we could share it. God created us to use those gifts to lead others toward true joy: sharing in His love.
We should give freely without expecting payment for our gifts. When we invest in the stock market, we hope for a future financial return. When we invest in others, however, the return is far greater. We help souls draw closer to God, and we experience greater joy in Heaven because of it. We have all heard sayings such as, “The more, the merrier” and “The bigger, the better.” In a sense, the same is true of Heaven. The more people who share in eternal life with God, the greater our joy will be.
Jesus calls us to follow His example and proclaim His love to the world. Many people are lost. Many are searching. Others do not even know what they are searching for. God calls you to be a light for them. Share the Good News. Show Christ’s love through your actions and help others find their way home.
