Stand Erect and Raise Your Heads

Life is full of wonderful moments, but it’s also full of much sadness, fear, and worry. While one person celebrates a gain, another grieves a loss. One person is overjoyed with a win while another is depressed from a failure. No matter if life treats us good or bad, we need to keep our eyes on the big picture.

Our time in this life is incredibly short. While we should enjoy life as much as possible and live each day to the fullest, we aren’t guaranteed happiness in this life. It’s only in Heaven where we will be guaranteed to be completely happy. As we enter into Advent, we are waiting and preparing for the joy of the coming of Jesus on Christmas Day and also for the day when He comes again and brings us to eternal joy.

There are many signs of the coming of Christmas. The Christmas lights and decorations are being put out, Christmas songs are starting to play, and people are frantically trying to get their shopping done. There will also be many signs when Jesus returns again. Jesus says, “There will be signs in the Sun, the moon, and the stars, and on Earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves.”

We may not live to see the signs of Jesus’ second coming, so we need to always be prepared and act as if He will come today. We may sometimes be able to see signs of our own end. We could see our health declining or find ourselves in an accident or incident that puts our life at risk. We shouldn’t be worried or anxious about death if we live a life with God at the center, because we will experience eternal happiness when we are united with God in Heaven.

Attachment to things and even to people in this life will hold us back from fully embracing Jesus when we come to Him in our death. We can become so worried about losing what we have that we live our life trying to protect our “loves” in this life instead of moving closer to our true love in Heaven. If a loved one dies, we shouldn’t have the attitude that life isn’t worth living anymore. Our primary purpose in life is not to have a family and keep them as long as possible. Our main goal is to find our way home to Heaven and help as many people as possible get to Heaven as well. If we fall and lose everything, don’t give up. We don’t need possessions or a job to get into Heaven.

When we see bad or scary things happening, stay strong in our faith that God will lead us through it and if we die that He will lead us home. When we keep our eyes fixed on Heaven, we will better be able to handle the pain and suffering that life dishes out to us and things will become a lot less scary. Stand erect and raise your heads for your redemption is at hand.
