It’s unfortunate that some people believe they have no purpose in life. One cause of depression can be a lack of understanding of our own worth and misplaced priorities. We chase things that cannot bring true happiness, and as a result, we never feel satisfied. While God calls each of us to different things, He calls all of us to produce good fruit and help build His kingdom.
Having a good job and earning a good salary can certainly benefit us, but money itself does not produce fruit that lasts. We can, however, use our wealth as a tool to bring people closer to Heaven and help those in need. Pleasure fades as we grow older, but we can still strive to bring pleasure and joy to others. Power never lasts, but we can use whatever influence we have to make the world a better place. We also tend to crave honor. We enjoy hearing people tell us how great we are, but instead of seeking that praise for ourselves, we should direct all honor toward God. He gave us everything we have, and without Him, we can do nothing.
Not only do many people fail to produce good fruit, but some produce bad fruit that leads others away from God. We can become so selfish that we will do whatever it takes to put ourselves in the best position. Sometimes, we try to lift ourselves up by tearing others down. Many YouTube channels exist primarily to argue that God does not exist or that Christianity is wrong. Other videos and movies attack Christianity by promoting bad examples and unhealthy morals. Bad language, sex, and violence appear far too often. Unfortunately, many major studios seem to believe they need to include these things to achieve success.
When Jesus came to bring light into the world, some people chose darkness instead. They had grown accustomed to the darkness, and when Jesus turned on the light, they recoiled and tried to extinguish it. We killed our Savior because His presence threatened the way we lived. When Jesus enters our lives, He challenges the status quo, and many people would rather keep things the way they are.
We need to remain open to change and strive to become better. If we want to produce good fruit, we need to continually till the soil of our hearts. Let the light of Jesus penetrate our lives so that good things can grow within us.
We naturally gravitate toward fruit that looks good, smells good, and tastes good. Just as Eve found the forbidden fruit attractive, the good fruit we produce can attract others to Christ. The forbidden fruit led to our death, but when we allow God to work through us and produce good fruit, we can lead others toward everlasting life.
