Keep My Word

One of the things that gives me a lot of fulfillment is successfully completing a project. I like to watch videos on how to fix something or how to accomplish a specific task. Most of the time, the video makes it look easy and then when I actually go to do it, some problem arises and it turns out to be much harder. In life, we have similar situations where we know what we want to do, but when we attempt to do it, something goes wrong. We also may feel like we want to do something, but just don’t know what to do or where to start.

Our Father gives us guidance through Jesus on how to find the ultimate fulfillment in life. Jesus lays out directions to follow in order to be happy and there is so much wisdom in the Bible to help us be successful in life. The problem is that when we try to follow the directions, we find out that they are not as easy to follow as we thought.

“Love is patient, love is kind.” Just wait and see how patient I am when one of my children throws a tantrum in public and embarrasses me. “Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.” But, I just can’t keep this juicy damaging piece of information to myself. “Love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!” You want me to do what now? No one ever said following Jesus’s way would be easy. If His instructions were easy, everyone would be following them. Sometimes it takes lots of practice to be able to better follow directions.

We need to continue to practice virtue in our everyday life. Start by focusing on the little virtues in life and work our way up to the big ones. Keep trying to be patient with others. The more we practice patience, the better we get at it. Always try to see the soul of the person we are interacting with instead of looking down on them or looking at the person as someone to use for our own benefit. There are always going to be people who have either wronged us in some way or annoy us. Let it go, don’t hold grudges, and try to realize what’s truly important in life. Try to always show others love, even if they don’t show love in return.

Just as I turn to videos or outside help for some of my projects, sometimes we need to seek out help when it comes to working on our project of getting to Heaven. We aren’t alone in the world. God sends us the Holy Spirit to guide us throughout our journey. Remember, the Holy Spirit acts through other people as well, so seek out their advice also. There are many people who have the gift of explaining things very well. I may be strong with one thing and someone else with another. If we help out each other, we get to reap the benefits of both strengths. Jesus encourages us by saying that if we follow Him, He will love us and make His dwelling with us. That is the ultimate fulfillment we should all be seeking, to be with our true love forever.
