It only takes one little light to brighten someone’s darkness. Discover how small acts of faith, kindness, and love can make a difference and help us shine the light of Christ.
On August 1, 2020, I published my first blog post, entitled “Five Loaves and Two Fish Is All We Have.” It was probably my shortest blog post, at only about a paragraph long. I had no idea what I was getting into or how my blog would evolve over time. We were in the middle of a pandemic, and I wanted to post something uplifting and be a light in the darkness.
The title of my website is One Little Light of Mine. I chose that name because all it takes is one small light to dispel the fear of darkness. We each have a light within us. Although our light is relatively small compared to the light of Christ, we can make it grow brighter when we nurture it. We will never shine as brightly as Jesus, but that isn’t the goal. The goal is to become more like Him and grow closer to Him. When we stand close to the ultimate source of light, we can’t help but shine brighter.
Many people don’t realize their worth. Just because someone doesn’t do something grand or heroic doesn’t mean they aren’t making a difference in the world. Imagine that every time you touched something, your hand produced a small spark. Most of the time, that spark might not have much of an effect. Under the right conditions, however, it could ignite a wildfire that spreads for miles. Now imagine a thousand people carrying that same spark. It doesn’t take much to set the hearts of the world on fire for Jesus.
We don’t have to go door to door preaching the Word of God. We can share His light through the everyday interactions we have with others. Earlier today, I was walking through a downtown city area when I saw a homeless man sitting on a bench. For a moment, I thought about turning down a different street or simply staring straight ahead. Instead, I waved and asked how he was doing. He smiled and said hello. I didn’t give him any money, but I tried to show him that he wasn’t invisible.
Just as the five loaves and two fish fed the crowd, our one little light can illuminate the darkness in many lives. We simply need to trust Jesus and allow Him to work through us. Ephesians 5:8 says it best: “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”
