I’m a Lover, Like My Father Before Me

We are all in training from our master to become the person we are called to be. We are each unique with our own set of gifts and talents. These gifts and talents need to be practiced and perfected, so we can use them to their fullest potential. As we grow in our training, we will become more and more like our master, Jesus.

We should help others achieve their fullest potential, but we need to make sure that our guidance is true. We also need to practice what we preach. If we teach one good behavior, but do the opposite, we are reinforcing bad behavior. The more knowledgeable we are, the easier it is for us to teach and also the easier it is for a student to learn.

Jesus taught us how to love one another and what to do to achieve eternal happiness. Two weeks ago, we heard the story about the Beatitudes and last week we heard about loving our enemies. These lessons have been passed down from generation to generation and are still relevant today. Not very many people can teach themselves something without any outside help. We usually rely on others to guide us along the way. However, we do need to be careful and discerning about who we allow to be a teacher to us. There are many wolves in sheep’s clothing, who will lead us astray if we follow them.

Jesus says we will know the good people from the bad based on what kind of fruit they produce. When we watch a YouTube personality, read a blog, or listen to a podcast, what are the fruits of it? Does it produce anger and division or joy and unity? Remember, Satan likes to scatter the sheep and divide and conquer. If Satan can divide the members of a religion, that religion will grow weaker and weaker. We need to work to stay united, especially when times are hard.

If we want to grow to be like Jesus, we need to put in the time and effort. Not many people become good at something by coasting through life. We need to constantly hone our talents and grow our knowledge on the ways to Heaven. Help others along the way, but use discretion on who you follow. Always show others love and we will grow to become like our master and one true love.
