Don’t Let Satan Put it Out!

We are all created in the image and likeness of God who is the ultimate source of light. Each of us has a light within us to share with the world. Some may have a very bright light and others may just have a dim one. No matter how bright it is, we are all called to let it shine to others.

Satan and a good portion of the world enjoy tainting and covering up anything that is holy and good. I get the sense that the world wants to either pretend that religion doesn’t exist or that it isn’t important. Hearing someone mention Jesus on TV is as shocking as when the censors let a curse word slip on a live show. The way the name of Jesus is predominately said on TV is mostly in vain. Jesus Christ, the biggest celebrity to walk the Earth, definitely doesn’t get enough proper screen time.

Politics and religion are the two things we aren’t supposed to talk about at our job, but people talk politics a whole lot more than religion. Sometimes, politics is all people want to talk about. While we don’t have to talk deeply about religion at work, we should work at being Christlike examples to others. The world is full of people who make bad and sinful choices, but if Christians are also spreading darkness by making distasteful jokes, spreading gossip, or putting down others, what hope does the world have? We need lots of beacons of light in this dark world, so people don’t trip and fall or get lost in the darkness.

It’s hard to be a light, especially when you are the only light around. A light may also draw things to us that we don’t want. If you have ever turned on a porch light, you will see it attracts all kinds of bugs and creepy crawly things. Satan will definitely come after you with your light on and will do what he can to snuff it out. We have to be willing to sacrifice everything to achieve our place in Heaven. Even if we endure much pain or even lose our life, if we achieve Heaven, we win and Satan loses. It’s easy to just hide in the shadows and not attract attention, but we all know that the easy way is usually not the best way to navigate to Heaven.

While it’s scary if you are the only light in the darkness, your light will attract other people and before you know it, there will be a lot less darkness with everyone shining together. We should all seek to not only follow the light of Christ, but the light from others as well. We aren’t meant to travel through life alone. We need each other’s help and guidance along the way. We should find a good community and surround ourselves with people who make us better people. It’s easy to fall into sin when those around us don’t see anything wrong with it. On the other hand, it’s much harder to slip when there is a community to support us.

What good is our light if we hide it? We would be like the foolish man who buried the talents he was given. Let’s put our talents to good use and see all the good it does to the lives we touch.
