The Lord Hears the Cry of the Poor

Learn how to stay humble in your walk with Jesus and use your blessings to lift others up. Let your light shine for God’s glory, not your own.

We’re all on a journey toward eternity. Some will enter everlasting joy, while others will face eternal regret. As I’ve said before, our relationship with Jesus determines where we end up. Some people walk closely with Him, while others remain distant. No matter where we stand, what matters most is that we keep striving to grow closer to Him. However, one thing that weakens that relationship is when we turn it into a competition.

We aren’t competing for the best spot in Heaven. We shouldn’t look down on those who seem farther from God, but instead help draw them closer to Jesus. No one likes a bragger. A good deed loses much of its value when the person who did it boasts about it.

Each of us has been blessed with different levels of physical and spiritual wealth. Do we hoard those blessings, or do we share them with others? Do we boast about what we have, or do we stay humble? We may work hard for our money, but it is God who gave us our skills, our talents, and even our very lives. The best way to thank Him is to use our gifts to bring others to Him.

Thank God when life is good, because it can change in an instant. Practice humility, because those who refuse to be humble will eventually be humbled. Never disregard others or see them as less than you. Instead, lift them up. Jesus was the one person who could have rightfully looked down on everyone, yet He lifted us up and even gave His life for us.

We can’t be a light in the world if we hide our light. If we focus only on ourselves, no one will be drawn to us. As we strengthen our relationship with Jesus, we naturally become more like Him. Don’t turn your light inward, but shine it outward so that all may see, and you’ll make the world a brighter place.
