So That They May All Be One

We are a diverse people, and that diversity is a beautiful gift. Still, we all share something deeply important: each of us is created by God and filled with an everlasting soul. God loves every one of us and desires to unite us with each other and with Himself, just as He and the Father are one.

When we see a great movie, enjoy an amazing meal, or have a meaningful experience, we naturally want to share it. In the same way, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit exist in perfect joy and love, and God wants to share that joy with us. He longs not only to be united with us but also to see us united in love with one another.

Last week, we heard Jesus command us to love one another. Love is the bond that draws us together. As we walk toward God, we grow closer to each other. Though our paths in life may look different, we all journey toward the same destination. As we turn our hearts to God and move in His direction, we draw nearer not only to Him but also to each other. And when we finally arrive, we will be there together.

Hell isn’t painful because God inflicts punishment, but because choosing a path away from Him separates us from our Creator. God made us in His image, and just as children run to embrace a father who has been gone, our souls long to be reunited with Him. We are ultimately most at peace and happy when we are close to God.

To stay close to our Father, we must actively seek to know Him better and stay in constant communication with Him. As we learn more about our true heritage and deepen our relationship with Him, we begin to grow into the people He created us to be, finding our way to Him more easily. When we pursue a deeper understanding of God and nurture a strong relationship with Him, we will find Him, and together we will be united in the eternal love of the Trinity.
