In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Although we first encounter Jesus at His earthly birth, He has always existed. He is the true light who comes into the world to lead us to His Father in Heaven. When we welcome Him into our lives, we allow Him to guide us along the way.
Mary’s “yes” made it possible for Jesus to enter the world. God never forces Himself into our lives; He waits for our invitation. When Adam and Eve sinned, they hid from God. When Mary said “yes,” she opened her body and her life to Him and welcomed God back into humanity so He could dwell among us.
Each Christmas, we remember Christ’s coming into the world and look forward to His return at the end of time. We are also called to welcome Him into our personal lives by saying “yes” to Him more often. Every day, we choose between following our own desires or following God’s will. True happiness comes when we learn to unite our will with His.
The presents may be put away and the Christmas music may fade, but the Christmas season continues. Even after the celebrations eventually end, we should keep the spirit of Christmas alive in our hearts and minds. Make your soul a welcoming place for Jesus, and invite Him to walk with you through life. When He is with you, you never walk alone. When you take your final breath, He will be beside you and will guide you home to the Father.
