Holy Spirit Spiritual Trinity

Come Holy Spirit, Come!

The Holy Spirit can be hard to understand, but without Him, we wouldn’t be able to do many of the good things we’re called to do. The Spirit inspires us, fills us with wisdom we couldn’t gain on our own, and gives us the strength to stay on the right path. He leads us, guides us, and helps us keep going when we feel weak.

In the Nicene Creed, we proclaim: “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.” The Holy Spirit truly gives life. Through the Spirit, Jesus was conceived in Mary’s womb and became human. We believe that the Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son, and that He is adored and loved by both. The Spirit spoke through the prophets of old and continues to speak through many people today.

At baptism, we receive the Holy Spirit. In the sacrament of confirmation, we are able to unlock even more of His gifts. These gifts help us grow closer to God and become a light in the world, leading others toward Him as well.

We should pray daily for the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts and guide our lives. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, distracted, or lost. The Spirit revives us and keeps us focused on God. As you deepen your relationship with the Lord, don’t overlook the third person of the Trinity, but instead pray, “Come, Holy Spirit, come!”
